I recovered some junked
[DLINK DIR 615 I1s](https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/d-link/d-link_dir-615_i1) a
while back. These routers were
[soft bricked](<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick_(electronics)#Soft_brick>)
(on-and-off remote access). A
[peek online](https://wayneoutthere.com/2018/12/23/how-to-flash-openwrt-d-link-dir-615/)
hinted at a built-in recovery/safe mode.

That failed in modern browsers. The
[suggestions here](https://wayneoutthere.com/2015/12/30/flash-openwrt-dir-615-d-link-router/)
didn't work either. Why? Who knows? They were made in 2012 and
discontinued 2017. Using the "recreate the developer's environment" trick, a
2012 browser (Opera) revived the custom firmware updater! Now they work again.
